Injured kitten found on B.C. highway with broken femur

The BC SPCA is hoping you can help after a kitten was found injured on the side of a highway.

Liz Dighton with the organization says a woman was driving along near Williams Lake when she noticed a “lump” on the edge of the road.

“She wasn’t sure what it was but when she turned around to check she found the helpless kitten. She wrapped her up in a towel, placed her on the passenger seat and reached out to her daughter to help her find the closest veterinary clinic.”

The kitten, since named “Macy” had a broken femur, and the SPCA believes she was likely hit by a car.

“The break was so severe amputation was the only option,” said Dighton, who is a manager with BC SPCA in Williams Lake. “She also had internal parasites but was in overall good health.”

Macy is recovering from surgery, and the plan is to put her into foster care while she continues to heal.

She will need weeks of ongoing care, as well as vaccinations, de-worming, and pain medication. She will also be spayed before she is made available for adoption.

“Macy hisses when she first sees you but she quickly relaxes and becomes a friendly, sweet girl once she knows you are willing to pet her and stroke her head,” Dighton said. “Back scratches and chin rubs turn her into a purr machine. She just loves it when people spend time with her.”

If you would like to help pay for vet bills for Macy or any other animals, you can do so on the BC SPCA website.
