The victims’ families have been contacted.

“Paul was the poster child of the family he worked so hard for everything he had,” his family said in a statement through the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

Steven’s family says “hopefully Steven’s tragic death will put a spotlight on the plight of the homeless and vulnerable in society. Love from your family.”

“We’ve learned that there are those in the community looking for their friends and loved ones wondering if they were victims” said Sgt. David Lee of IHIT.

“We hope that this identification helps the public awareness of who was involved and to assess if there are other unaccounted for,” Lee added.

A woman is still in the hospital with critical injuries. A man was also in the hospital, and is expected to be okay. Both are 26 years old.

The suspect, Jordan David Goggin, was shot by police. The 28-year-old Surrey man died at the scene. Goggin was known to police for “non-criminal contacts,” but police have not identified a motive.

Most of the shootings happened before sunrise, but people across Metro Vancouver knew about it shortly before 6:30 a.m. when they were jolted awake by an emergency alert.
