Chilliwack fire destroys home; adult, baby make it out safe

An adult and a baby are safe after a fire destroyed a home in the Ryder Lake area of Chilliwack over the weekend.

Fire crews say they were called to a two-story home along Farnham Road just after 3 p.m. Sunday.

When they arrived, they found the home “fully involved.”

Forty firefighters from six different fire halls were called in to help get flames under control and to prevent them from spreading to a field of tall grass nearby.

While the adult and child were home at the time, they were able to get out. Fire crews say the blaze was first called in by a neighbour who had been working in his yard.

The cause of the fire appears to be accidental, Chilliwack Fire says, adding no one was physically hurt.

An excavator has been brought in to demolish the home.
