Heat warning issued for Metro Vancouver

Another heat wave is on the way for Metro Vancouver.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a heat warning at about 11 a.m. Tuesday, saying temperatures over the next two days are expected to reach 29 to 35 degrees inland. Highs of 27 are expected by the water.

The hottest time of the day will be late afternoon to early evening.

“Thursday looks like it’s going to be the hottest day of the week,” said CityNews Meteorologist Carl Lam.

“You factor in the humidity, and it’s going to feel really steamy by the time we get to Thursday.”

The lows — which will be during the early morning hours, are only predicted to drop to 16 to 18 degrees.

The warning calls this a “short-lived” heat wave. The extreme heat should break by Friday.

“Temperatures get back into the mid-20s for daytime high temperatures, but it will still be pretty warm for areas further inland,” Lam said.

You’re advised to keep an eye out for signs of heat illness, including swelling, a rash, cramps, and fainting. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are a greater concern for young children, older adults, those who are pregnant, people with chronic illness, and those who are exercising outdoors.
