North Beach campground at Golden Ears Park to remain closed for season

By Shawn Ayers and Andrew Cowie

Areas of Golden Ears Park and Alouette Lake will remain closed through the end of the campground season.

The bridge over Gold Creek was damaged, and has been closed to all incoming vehicle traffic, as a result of a vehicle accident Thursday.

This has left the North Beach campsite impassable, and will be closed due to the bridge issue.

“The closure is expected to extend through the end of the Gold Creek Campground season (Sept. 18) meaning that camping at North Beach campground will likely be closed for the season,” said a Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy statement.

The ministry adds that camping reservations and day pass reservations are being cancelled and full refunds are being issued to affected campers with suggestions of nearby alternative camping locations.

They say 89 total campers between August 18 and 20 will be affected by the cancellations, with a total of 487 campers by the end of the season.

“While the Day-Use Pass still remains in place, the Gold Creek parking lot is closed and so day passes for this parking lot are not available. All other parking areas apart from the Gold Creek parking lot will be available as per the Day-Use Pass system availability,” said the ministry.

The ministry says the Gold Creek parking area will reopen as soon as the bridge is fixed and reopened.
