West Vancouver police say two women, both in their 60’s, are dead after a vehicle struck a group of people attending a wedding. Monika Gul reports investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the crash.

Two people are dead after a car crashed into a group of wedding guests in West Vancouver over the weekend.

It happened Saturday at 6:10 p.m. on Keith Road, west of 3rd Street.

“The scene was chaotic and involved multiple victims,” said Const. Nicole Braithwaite with West Vancouver police.

Braithwaite says a woman in her 60s was leaving her home through a shared driveway when the vehicle she was driving collided with a group of people who were at the wedding at a neighbouring property.

Among the group of wedding guests were two other women in their 60s, who were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and six other people were sent to the hospital. Their injuries range from serious to critical. Two people have what police call “life-altering injuries.”

“It was a wedding celebration with over 50 individuals … It was a tragic incident that happened on what should have been someone’s happiest day of their lives,” Braithwaite said.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. An analysis of the crash is still underway to help determine whether charges will be recommended.

Anyone who was directly affected by this incident, or know someone who was, is urged to call the West Vancouver police’s Victim Services team at 604-925-7468.
