B.C. hiker falls off cliff, airlifted to hospital

A badly injured hiker has been airlifted to the hospital after they fell off a cliff in Say Nuth Khaw Yum Provincial Park (also known as Indian Arm Park) on Monday.

Coquitlam Search and Rescue (SAR) says its members were called shortly after 8 p.m., when the hiker fell 30 metres near Barton Point.

Members spoke to the person’s hiking partner and confirmed that the person who fell was in and out of consciousness, SAR said.

“SAR members mustered, accessing the area using a UTV and by foot via roads and trails on Eagle Ridge. Due to the nature of the injuries, Canadian Forces 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron from Comox was activated to perform a night time hoist operation,” the organization said on Facebook.

The hiker was taken to Vancouver International Airport and then transferred to BC Ambulance just after midnight.
