Douglas College on-campus student housing coming in 2026

In the next four years, Douglas College will offer on-campus housing for students.

The plan announced Tuesday will see a new 20-storey building with 368 student beds in one-, two-, and four-bed units. It will also offer academic space, food services, and parking.

The province is footing the lion’s share of the bill, pitching in over $200 million. The remaining $90 million is being paid for by Douglas College.

“With classes moving to the new academic building, space will become available for other purposes, including a potential expansion of the college’s child care facility,” reads a statement from the province.

More than 25,000 domestic and international students attend Douglas College every year.

Construction of the new building, which will be named 808 Royal, is expected to begin next summer. The project is expected to be complete in summer 2026.

The province says this project will add an more than 1,000 direct jobs and nearly 900 indirect jobs.
