Vancouver Pride week assault suspects identified

The suspects in an alleged assault along Vancouver’s Commercial Drive that left one person hurt during Pride week have been identified.

The violent incident was captured on video last month and shared by police this week with the hopes of gathering more information.

“Investigators began to receive tips from the public as soon as the video was released, including from a family member of one of the suspects, who has been identified as a young person,” Const. Jason Doucette explained.

“We are confident that all of the suspects have been identified and will be held accountable for their role in the attack”.

The assault happened outside of a convenience store in the area of Commercial and 10th Avenue in the early hours of July 31. Police say a 42-year-old man had stopped in to buy a slurpee after attending Pride events downtown.

The attack followed what the VPD has described as “a brief verbal confrontation between the man and another person who was waiting in line.”

The man was jumped by three people after leaving the store.

The VPD has previously said it was investigating the attack as a possible hate crime.

So far, no arrests have been made. The VPD is hoping to speak with anyone who may have information about what happened, or anyone who has more video of the incident.
