“You won’t be charged for the tow, but you’ll need to get there,” Chilliwack Mayor Ken Popove said.
The RCMP, Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD), and the Cultus Lake Parks Board have partnered up to implement the towing over the last long weekend for the summer.
Popove says the Columbia Valley Highway is narrow, and illegal parking can slow emergency vehicles.
“I feel most of these folks are coming in from the west of us, with little or no regard to what safety rules we have in place here.”

You’re advised to park only in designated paid parking lots around the lake.
“Parking is prohibited on the Columbia Valley Highway as it poses a hazard to drivers and pedestrians and prevents emergency services from moving safely through the area,” reads a statement from the FVRD.
This enforcement is expected from Sept. 3 to 5.
