A fire has broken out at a two-story apartment near Commercial Street and Venables Street Sunday afternoon.
Vancouver Fire Rescue Services tells CityNews they haven’t found anyone inside and are currently cutting into the roof to find the source of the fire.
Fire Chief Ken Gemmill says the call for the fire came in at around 11:35 a.m.
“We did a full primary search of both floors with an engine crew and they found no animals and no people inside,” said fire chief Ken Gemmill.
“They’re doing their best to try to find the seed to extinguish it as fast as we can. So hopefully we can get this thing knocked down soon.”
He says so far no one has claimed injuries from the fire.
“There’s gonna be damage obviously to the building but we don’t know what the extent yet,” he said.
“It looks like there’s about four or five units up top so hopefully we’re not displacing too many tenants.”
Drivers are asked to find a different route as the intersection of Commercial and Venables is currently shut down.
