Busy long weekend for North Shore Rescue on Dog Mountain

By Mike Gazzola and Hana Mae Nassar

The Labour Day long weekend was no holiday for members of North Shore Rescue.

They were tasked out three times to the Dog Mountain area Monday.

According to a social media post, search and rescue volunteers were first called to the popular mountain in the afternoon for word of a hiker who had hurt their ankle.

A team was sent in to extract the hiker with the help of a helicopter.

Meanwhile, while SAR members were out on that call, another came in for a second hiker just 300 metres down the trail. That person had reportedly fallen 10 metres and “sustained numbers injuries,” NSR writes.

The second hikers was carried out via stretcher to be picked up by helicopter when a third report came in, this time for a hiker who had fallen and hurt their head.

The woman was assessed by fire crews and NSR members before it was determined they were able to hike back out on their own.
