Man wanted Canada-wide for allegedly shooting BB gun at Vancouver buses in Downtown Eastside

Police in Vancouver are looking for a man who is facing over 22 charges after dozens of transit buses were shot at with a BB gun on East Hastings earlier this year.

They say during a months-long investigation, they were able to narrow down the location to a small area between Columbia and Carrall streets.

“This was a difficult investigation, given the number of buses that were targeted and because none of the crimes were immediately reported,” said Sgt. Steve Addison. “Investigators worked backwards to pinpoint the exact location where the crimes occurred, to identify the suspect, and to gather evidence linking the suspect to the crimes.”

The VPD says a 43-year-old suspect was charged on Aug. 29 in connection with the incident.

William Tallio is now wanted Canada-wide for 11 counts of mischief and 11 counts of possession of a weapon related to offences that occurred between Jan.19 and Jan. 29.

“Transit Police is pleased to have resolved this threat to public safety on transit through collaboration with our jurisdictional policing partners,” said Metro Vancouver Transit Police Cst. Amanda Steed. “We are dedicated to ensuring that everyone feels safe on transit in Metro Vancouver.”

The VPD says while people were on board the buses, no injuries were reported and in most cases, damage wasn’t noticed in after the driver’s shift.
