Union Blue Bus workers in West Vancouver say a tentative agreement has been reached with the employer to end all job action.
Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 134 says it has agreed with the West Vancouver District to use binding arbitration to reach a new collective agreement. As such, all strike action will end as of Thursday.
The union says it will meet with the district to go over additional details. The agreement means an end to planned rotating strikes as well as an overtime and uniform ban.
In a statement to CityNews, the district says they were happy with a deal coming together.
“The District is very happy that there will be no further inconvenience to Blue Bus users, and with the return to school today and a busy fall season to come, that people will be able to continue to rely on West Vancouver Transit and the high level of service they are accustomed to,” the statement said.
The district has confirmed it will be moving forward with arbitration, adding they “[look] forward to a positive conclusion to this round of collective bargaining with the ATU.”

ATU Local 134 previously announced it was going to ramp up job action on Thursday, warning transit users to “plan for alternative transportation” due to disruptions and delays on the line as a result.
“I want to thank all of our valued riders on the Blue Bus transit system for standing with our drivers and mechanics to call on West Vancouver District to resolve our dispute and find a new contract that ends the disparity on wages and working conditions that our members have with all other transit workers in Metro Vancouver,” ATU Local 134 President Cornel Neagu said Wednesday. “Public pressure has helped us get our employer to accept the union’s arbitration offer.”
The union represents 150 members in the West Vancouver Blue Bus system.
