Langley crews battled substantial fires in the Brookswood area Monday morning.
Bruce Ferguson, deputy fire chief with the Township of Langley Fire Department says it was two chicken barns that were burning.
“Neither one of them contained any birds, they were used for storing equipment,” Ferguson told CityNews.
Fire crews got the call at around 5:30 a.m.
“It was fully evolved when we arrived on scene … and they [crews] just got back around [2 p.m.],” said Ferguson.
Crews needed to use an excavator to lift material to help them dowse the flames, Ferguson explained.
Investigations are ongoing to determine what started the barn fires.
Images from earlier show a large building ablaze, with thick white smoke rising from the structure.
40th Avenue was closed between 208th and 216th streets.
No injuries or fatalities have been reported, according to Ferguson.
