Fire at Sasamat Lake believed to be human-caused: Port Moody police

Port Moody police are looking into a fire near a beachside concession stand at Sasamat Lake.

The fire started on Thursday evening at White Pine Beach, northwest of Anmore, and police say it likely started because of a person.

One woman was reportedly seen running away from the scene, and officers are looking to speak with her.

Police say the fire was about 20 metres by 30 metres in size, and officials were able to quickly put it out.

“Thankfully this fire was reported promptly and quickly contained by fire crews,” said Cst. Sam Zacharias.

“Given the current fire danger rating, we are asking the public to be extra vigilant and report suspicious activity to us immediately.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Port Moody Police at 604-461-3456.
