Both the City of North Vancouver and the District of North Vancouver have incumbent mayors fighting to keep their job, but they have some tough competition from well-known city councillors.
Let’s start in the City of North Vancouver:
Linda Buchanan (Incumbent)
Buchanan is the current Mayor of the City of North Vancouver. Previously she was a city councillor and a school trustee.
She holds a degree in nursing, and before pursuing politics worked as a public health nurse.
Buchanan’s platform includes tackling housing and affordability, working with other levels of government on transportation, and enhancing the city’s sense of connection and community engagement.
She lives in the Ridgeway/Grand Boulevard neighbourhood with her husband, where they raised their four children.
Guy Heywood
Heywood is no stranger to politics, serving as a school trustee and a city councillor, before being beaten by Buchanan for the Mayor’s chair in 2018.
He’s a consultant to companies who need help with banking and financing and has a long career in banking.
Heywood’s platform includes planning infrastructure more carefully so it doesn’t create more traffic congestion, tackling the housing crisis, and properly funding police and fire.
Heywood has lived in North Van since 1970 and now lives in Lower Lonsdale with his wife.

In the District of North Vancouver, it’s a similar story, with a councillor taking on an incumbent Mayor.
Mike Little (Incumbent)
Little was a city councillor for nearly a decade, before being elected to Mayor in 2018.
Before becoming Mayor, Little was on the management team for a port terminal.
His platform centres around adding more transit to the North Shore—saying the city needs to focus on transportation infrastructure before committing to significant growth.
Little and his wife are raising their four children in the Parkgate neighborhood.
Mathew Bond
Bond is a current city councillor serving his second term.
He has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Systems Engineering and now works as an engineering consultant.
He’s running on creating more transportation, helping small businesses, and investing in parks and culture.
He lives in the Lynn Creek Town Centre area with his two daughters.
Municipal election day across the province is Oct. 15th.
