B.C. COVID-19 reports to include other respiratory illnesses

The BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) says it will now combine reporting on COVID-19 with other respiratory illnesses.
The reports will also include lab-confirmed testing data, waste water surveillance, hospitalization figures, and visits to primary care clinics.
The BCCDC is making these changes after three years of regular COVID-19 reports “to better monitor trends throughout the respiratory season.”

The centre says non-COVID illnesses are spreading more rapidly. At the beginning of October, over 4,000 people with respiratory symptoms visited doctors. Most of patients were kids.
However, despite the change in reporting, there are still many reminders that COVID-19 is not gone yet.
In the first week of October, the BCCDC reported nearly 700 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, as well as 181 new hospital admissions.
