The Surrey RCMP has arrested an alleged motorcycle thief.

According to Mounties, officers first spotted a suspect they say was on a bike with no license plates and who ran a red light on Thursday, Oct. 6.

This was along Highway 99 northbound near the 16 Avenue on-ramp.

The RCMP says during the search, Air 1, a police helicopter, was in the area and was quick to track the person down.

As the helicopter was following the suspect, Mounties say the person stopped in the area of 62 Avenue and 136 Street, got off the bike, and ran away. Police followed the driver, later arresting him.

Investigators say the 38-year-old suspect was wanted on an outstanding warrant for beach of probation in another jurisdiction.

During the incident, police say officers also found a bag with just under 600 grams of meth, cocaine, and fentanyl. The RCMP believes the suspect may have ditched the satchel while running from police.

The Surrey RCMP says the drugs seized amount to over 2,800 doses.

Police say the motorcycle was reported stolen in September “while being test driven by a potential buyer.”

The suspect remains in custody until his next court appearance.
