    It was an emotional day for hundreds of first responders in Metro Vancouver, as Burnaby RCMP Const. Shaelyn (Tzu-Hsin) Yang’s body was driven via procession from Vancouver General to Burnaby Hospital.

    Police, fire, and other emergency responders lined the streets Thursday to pay tribute to the officer, who was killed in the line of duty earlier this week.

    Many of those who attended the procession did so in uniform, while fire trucks and police vehicles had their lights on in salute.

    Yang was stabbed while responding to a call at Burnaby’s Broadview Park Tuesday morning. A memorial continues to grow for the 31-year-old at the site.

    The suspect in her death was charged with first-degree murder Wednesday, when he appeared in court.

      Police agencies and others across the country have shared their condolences following Yang’s death.

      “She was compassionate and caring and she brought those skills every day to her job, working with our community’s most vulnerable, including those experiencing homelessness and mental health issues,” RCMP Chief Superintendent Graham de la Gorgendiere previously said of the officer.
