BC Lions to host first playoff game since 2016

BC Place will be home to CFL playoff action for the first time in six years.

On Friday, the BC Lions defeated the Edmonton Elks 31-14 to secure second place in the CFL’s Western Division. The seeding guarantees the Lions will host a playoff game in the Western semi-finals.

BC will welcome the Calgary Stampeders on Sunday, Nov. 6 for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.

With one week remaining in the CFL schedule, the Lions have 12 wins and five losses on the year. BC enjoyed some good stretches of play this season, at one point winning five games in a row.

The Lions have been led by their breakout star at quarterback, Nathan Rourke. The 24-year-old from Victoria has thrown for 3,281 yards and 25 touchdowns in nine games played this year.

BC running back James Butler has also help usher the Lions’ offence, leading the CFL with 1,054 rushing yards in 16 games played, along with seven touchdowns.

Wide receiver Dominique Rhymes has been a breakout star for the Lions as well, with 1,346 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns.

This year will be the first time since 2018 the Lions will appear in the CFL playoffs. That year, they lost to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the East semi-final.

The last time a playoff game was played at BC Place was in 2016 when the Lions pulled out a come-from-behind victory to defeat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, 32-31. BC lost to Calgary in the West finals the next week.

Tickets for this year’s Western semi-finals will be available to season ticket holders beginning Oct. 25 and then to the general public on Oct. 27.
