Abbotsford police arrest and charge man after high school placed on lockdown

A man in his 30s has been arrested and charged after he entered an Abbotsford high school Wednesday.

Abbotsford police say staff at Bakerview Centre for Learning saw a man inside the building and asked him to leave, adding that staff had placed the school on lockdown as a safety precaution.

Officers arrived shortly after to learn the man had fled, but say they were able to locate him “a short distance away.”

After the arrest, investigators say they found a large amount of illegal drugs on the suspect.

Police charged 39-year-old Sunpreet Monga with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The strength of our collaboration led to the swift arrest of this repeat offender and demonstrates our shared goal to keep our schools safe,” said Inspector Kevin Murray in a statement.
