Homicide investigators say two brothers who were found dead in a Richmond fire in March 2021 are now believed to have been connected to a shooting the year before.
On Tuesday, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said an incident in December of 2020 may have been a “precursor” to the murders of Chaten Dhindsa, 25, and Joban Dhindsa, 23, the next year.

On Dec. 3, 2020, there were reports of shots fired along No. 3 Road between Cambie Road and Alderbridge Way. IHIT says there were three vehicles involved, adding investigators believe this incident was related to the death of Chaten and Joban a few months later, though they have not specified why.
The two men were found dead on Mar. 19, 2021, in a building along Rathburn Drive. At the time, the RCMP said the brothers had injuries that were “consistent with a homicide.”

Sgt. Timothy Pierotti says the investigation is “complex” and goes beyond a single shooting, though IHIT has only provided details about one such instance.
IHIT is asking that anyone with information regarding the 2021 homicides of Chaten and Joban or the shooting on Dec. 3, 2020, to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
