Power restored to most of province after windstorm: BC Hydro

After a strong fall windstorm knocked the lights out for thousands in British Columbia on Friday night, BC Hydro has restored power to most of those affected.
In a media release Sunday morning, the utility says it has restored power to 98 per cent of the 330,000 customers impacted by the windstorm.

“Crews have been working around the clock to restore power, replacing dozens of spans of power line as well power poles, transformers, and cross-arms,” BC Hydro said.
The utility adds there could be “small pockets” of customers in remote areas that may remain without power, depending on access to the location and the extent of the damage.
According to BC Hydro’s outage list, there are over 200 outages on the Lower Mainland and Sunshine Coast affecting nearly 6,900 customers as of Sunday morning. On Vancouver Island, there are over 3,000 customers affected by over 60 outages.

Over 100,000 people woke up without power on Saturday morning after the fall wind storm brought strong gusts that knocked down trees and power lines.
The aftermath of the storm saw tree branches strewn across roads and highways, debris blown into people’s yards, and even boats capsizing in some harbours.
