Metro Vancouver gets first snowfall of season

Metro Vancouver has experienced its first snowfall of the season, and many in the region have taken to social media to share photos and videos of the weather.

A snowfall warning was issued on Saturday for the region, with a few regions waking up with some accumulation on Sunday morning. As the day went on, rain showers turned into flurries, with many areas seeing the snow begin to accumulate on the ground.

Places closer to sea level, like Vancouver, saw a few minutes of flakes falling, while further inland Burnaby, Coquitlam, and Surrey saw a more sustained snowfall throughout the afternoon.

Environment and Climate Change Canada says up to 4 cm of snow is expected to fall in higher elevations around the region, but it seems like even closer to sea level, the flakes were falling. The weather agency has issued numerous alerts for snowfall and cold weather in other areas around the province, including for some major highways.

From Vancouver to Surrey and everywhere in between, Metro Vancouverites were quick to share what the weather looked like outside their window on Sunday afternoon.
