Strong winds, mechanical issues cancel Tuesday BC Ferries sailings

For the second day in a row, BC Ferries has cancelled several scheduled sailings — but not just because of adverse weather.
Strong winds were to blame for some cancellations, as was the case Monday, affecting Tuesday’s 6:15 a.m. sailing from Departure Bay and 8:25 a.m. sailing from Horseshoe Bay.

However, due to mechanical issues with the main engine on the Queen of Surrey, a number of sailings on the same route in the afternoon have also been scrapped or changed.
Cancelled sailings include:
10:40 a.m. departing Horseshoe Bay
1:00 p.m. leaving Departure Bay
3:45 p.m. departing Horseshoe Bay
5:55 p.m. leaving Departure Bay
8:45 p.m. leaving Departure Bay
Modified schedule:
5:30 p.m. departing Horseshoe Bay
7:40 p.m. leaving Departure Bay
9:40 p.m. departing Horseshoe Bay

“The safety of our passengers and crew is of primary importance to us, and we will keep you informed as more information becomes available,” BC Ferries said on its website, adding weather-affected sailings will resume when “conditions improve.”
