Voting for the name change opened to members online on Sunday morning and will run until Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Leader of the BC Liberals, Kevin Falcon, says the name of the party has been a long-debated topic.

“This is an important step for the future of our party and I’m pleased all members will finally get the chance to have their say in a vote,” he said in a statement.

The online vote will consist of a “yes” or “no” question on whether or not to change the party’s name to “BC United,” which was announced as the frontrunner in September.

“BC United is a fresh alternative that expresses the Party’s longstanding commitment to unity across a broad coalition of party members, as well as highlighting British Columbia front and centre in the name choice,” a party release at the time stated.

Branding experts have said the new potential name signals the party is going for a more contemporary moniker.

Since being named leader of the BC Liberals in February, Falcon has said changing the name of the party has been a top priority.
