Mounties in Merritt are looking into multiple shootings in the area said to have taken place early Tuesday.
Calls came in to the Merritt RCMP between 5 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., with people reporting shots had been fired in the city, as well as the areas of Mamette Lake Road and Coldwater — north and south of the community.
Merritt Mayor Mike Goetz says he has been told that as many as 100 rounds were fired, but no one was hurt.
Investigators say it’s believed all of the incidents “are related and targeted,” though few other details are available at this time.
“We are actively investigating what happened”, said Sgt. Josh Roda. “We do not believe there is any further risk to the public and will have a significant police presence in these areas as we move forward with the investigations.”
The RCMP has not reported any arrests.
Investigators are speaking with witnesses and are asking “for the public’s patience at this time.” If anyone has any information to share, they are asked to contact the Merritt RCMP at 250.3748.4262.
