Teens cause commotion at North Vancouver McDonald’s

A group of teenagers caused a disturbance at a McDonald’s along Marine Drive in North Vancouver Tuesday evening, the RCMP says.

At around 9 p.m., police responded to reports of youths yelling and swearing at staff, making a mess, and refusing to leave the building.

Mounties say 10 to 12 teens, aged between 13 and 15, were involved.

The RCMP says one teen “repeatedly kicked an officer,” and was arrested for multiple offences, including assault and causing a disturbance.

“The Detachment’s approach to youth in these types of situations focuses initially on ensuring public safety through de-escalation, and then follows up using principles of dialogue, reparation and healing,” the RCMP said in a release.

Mounties at the scene also reported the teens initially provided the officers with fake names, but police eventually found the correct information. Their parents and guardians were contacted.

“We have obtained video surveillance that shows the entire incident, and while our investigation continues, our Youth Support Unit is taking next steps to work with the youths and their families in partnership with the North Shore Restorative Justice Society,” Sgt. Peter DeVries said.
