Heavy traffic expected around YVR over Black Friday weekend

Those travelling to and from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) over the weekend are advised to plan ahead as traffic delays are expected due to Black Friday shoppers.

Sales events are happening this weekend from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. at nearby McArthur Glen Outlet Mall.

Airport officials say they are expecting heavy congestion as shoppers flock to the area, and are encouraging travelers to take the Canada Line if possible.

For those who must drive to the airport, the Richmond RCMP is recommending people allow for extra lead time, and recommends pre-booking parking at yvr.ca.

According to a YVR advisory, those planning to use the Value Long Term lot adjacent to Templeton Station should expect even lengthier delays because of its proximity to the outlet mall.

Staff are working with RCMP’s traffic enforcement officers to help ease the situation, but the public is advised to plan ahead to avoid further delays.
