Estimated $2.4M in drugs seized by New Westminster police

Police in New Westminster came away with quite the haul of suspected illegal drugs following a traffic stop last month.

The New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) says on Nov. 27, officers pulled over a vehicle with damage on the front that had previously failed to stop for police.

When police stopped the vehicle, the officer found a “large quantity” of drugs. The driver of the vehicle was arrested, police say.

In total, police seized:

• 8 kg of suspected fentanyl powder
• 500 grams of suspected fentanyl pills
• 1.5 kg of suspected crystal methamphetamine
• 1.5 kg of suspected heroin
• 400 mL of suspected codeine

 

The estimated cost of the drugs seized is about $2.4 million, according to police.

Sgt. Justine Thom commended the work done by the officer.

“Drug offences negatively impact our communities at many different levels,” she said. “We want to let criminals know they’re not wanted in New Westminster.”

The department says the investigation into the seized drugs continues.
