One dead in Mission stabbing; IHIT called in

Homicide investigators have been called to Mission after a man died in a stabbing Wednesday.

Officers were called to a home on 4th Avenue just off Mary Street around 7 a.m. When police arrived, they found a man who had been stabbed.

First responders tended to the victim at the scene, but he later died.

“Initial evidence suggests this was a targeted homicide, though the motive is still under investigation,” explained Sgt. Timothy Pierotti with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

IHIT notes early evidence shows this was a targeted incident, though it’s unclear what criminal background, if any, the victim had. No suspects have been identified.

Wednesday’s fatal stabbing in Mission came after two other homicides were reported in the Lower Mainland in a 24-hour period. Pierotti says there’s nothing at this time to suggest this case is related to others.

“At this point, we have nothing to say that it is connected to anything that’s happened recently or any other crimes in the area,” he told reporters.

“We’re still working and canvassing the area, speaking to as many witnesses as possible to identify any suspects.”

IHIT is asking anyone who was in the area of 4th Avenue and Mary Street between 6 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. with dash-camera video, or anyone with information regarding the homicide to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
