TransLink’s new Compass Mini-Train keychains are drawing a crowd, as hundreds lined up in Vancouver to get their hands on the new payment method.
On Wednesday, the miniature model of a SkyTrain car went up for sale at the Customer Service Centre inside of the Waterfront Station.
But those looking to purchase one of the models will likely be disappointed, as TransLink says the small trains are completely sold out.

The small models were available in two colours, with the blue train designated for adult fare and the orange train for kids and seniors.
TransLink says 5,000 were made in total, and transit users can use them to tap through the compass card gates.
“What makes it different from the rest of the Compass products is that it actually lights up when you tap in,” TransLink Spokesperson Jawn Jang said.
People paid a $6 refundable deposit for their keychains, with a limit of 4 per person. Jang says that some people started lining up early in the morning with the hope of getting their hands on the colourful objects.
“The very first person in line said that she was here at 5:30 a.m. this morning, and doors don’t even open until nine.” he said.
Although the limited edition keychains sold out within hours, TransLink said in a tweet that “there are no plans” to make more.
“Right now, we don’t have plans to make more of the Compass Mini-Trains. However, we will take the time to evaluate everything afterwards, and who knows what the future has in store,” Jang said.
