The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is calling it the single-largest opium seizure in its history.
Nearly 2,500 kilograms of opium has been seized in at the Port of Vancouver.
The CBSA’s Nina Patel says the drugs were found stuffed into nearly 250 shipping pallets arriving from overseas on October 25th.
“Using a variety of detection tools and technology, our officers discovered anomalies inside the shipping pallets,” said Patel.
The drugs have an estimated street value of over $50 million.

RCMP Assistant Commissioner Will Ng was on hand for the announcement in Tsawwassen Friday morning, saying there’s still work to be done on the case.
“Although this significant drug seizure has undoubtedly put a dent in organized crime, the investigation into these individuals responsible is ongoing,” said Ng.
He adds the bust was made possible with help from police in Dubai and Australia.
