2-year-old boy survives being half-swallowed by hippopotamus in Uganda

Police in Uganda say a two-year-old boy was grabbed by a hippopotamus near Lake Edward in Katwe.

The boy was playing outside of his house when the hippo caught the child in its mouth and “swallowed half of his body” head-first.

But thanks to the quick-thinking of a bystander who threw rocks at the hippo, the animal was scared off and released the boy.

According to police, the child was taken to the hospital and received a vaccine for rabies and has fully recovered.

Although the hippo went back into the lake, police say that “all residents near animal sanctuaries and habitats, should know that wild animals are very dangerous.”
