Hundreds of Canadians stranded in Mexico after cancelled flights

By The Canadian Press

Hundreds of Canadians have been stranded for days in Cancun, Mexico after their Sunwing flight home was cancelled last week.

Tess Friedenberger says her flight to Calgary, originally scheduled for December 22nd, was repeatedly delayed until finally, it seemed she and her companion would be on a plane out of Mexico on Christmas Eve.

She says the flight never happened — Sunwing employees told them it didn’t exist, and she hasn’t received word from the company since about when she might get home.

Friedenberger says in the meantime, Sunwing has shuffled her and other passengers through different hotels, one of which didn’t know they were coming and had no rooms booked.

She says people are getting angry and desperate and just want to go home.

Sunwing says it cancelled several flights because of the ferocious winter weather in Canada, saying it was doing its best to find accommodations and alternative routes home for all passengers.
