North Vancouver driver flashes fake gun in road rage incident: RCMP

A case of road rage in North Vancouver on Christmas Day has the RCMP warning against playing with fake guns.

Mounties say around 6:15 p.m. on Sunday, they received reports of a road rage incident near Lonsdale Avenue and E 13th Street.

During the altercation between the two drivers involved, police say one of them flashed what appeared to be a handgun.

The RCMP says officers “immediately flooded” the area and found the suspect nearby. Police ordered everyone out of the vehicle, eventually finding one of the passengers had an airsoft gun that “resembled a real gun.”

Cst. Mansoor Sahak says officers had to follow “extremely serious” protocols regarding firearms when they responded to the situation.

“Thankfully, it turned out to be a replica, but at the time, passengers in the other vehicle believed it was real,” he said.

Police are cautioning youth about the dangers of playing with fake handguns in public, noting “replica guns like these are indistinguishable from the real thing.”

“While they may seem harmless, they can cause panic and will elicit a Police response,” RCMP said.
