One officer stable, GoFundMe page started to support Nelson police officers’ families

A GoFundMe page has now been set up for the family of a Nelson police officer who died in an avalanche this week, and to also support another officer who was seriously injured.

The avalanche happened on Monday near Kaslo, B.C. when the two officers were ski touring off duty.

Cst. Wade Tittemore was killed in the event, while Cst. Mat Nolet received critical injuries and remains in intensive care.

“As many of you know by now, two of our best and well loved Nelson Police Department officers were caught in an avalanche,” read the page.

Cst. Adam Sutherland, another officer at Nelson Police Department, says the response from the community and support from fellow police departments has been very positive. Sutherland adds that Cst. Nolet is somewhat stable, and has spoken to his fellow officers.

“Many of us I think have at least been encouraged by the fact that one of those two is alive and we’ve been able to speak with them. You know, have some laughs and get some insight into what happened. Put together the events for that day. That was helpful, but more than anything I think it was just establishing this, at least for the time being he’s okay, albeit very critical,” Sutherland explained.

The GoFundMe page organized to support Tittemore and Nolet’s families started on the night of Jan. 10, and already has raised over $30,000 of its $100,000 goal.
