Young Vancouver Canucks fan gets surprise after signed hockey stick lost

After a young Vancouver Canucks fan’s signed hockey stick was lost on a flight a few weeks ago, the Nanaimo boy was treated to a surprise by the team.

The Canucks posted a video on social media Wednesday showing the moment the boy, Linden, received a new stick and a signed jersey from captain Bo Horvat. The items were delivered to Linden in Nanaimo on Tuesday by Canucks’ mascot Fin and team ambassador Kirk McLean.

The saga began on Dec. 23 during a Canucks game in Edmonton. Linden made a sign that read “Hey Bo Horvat, all I want for Christmas is a signature. Rock, paper, scissors. Go Canucks!” The boy ended up receiving a signed stick from the Canucks captain.

“I did not want to let go of that stick,” Linden said in the video.

But when Linden and his family flew back from Edmonton to Abbotsford, the signed stick was lost.

Horvat was made aware of the lost stick and sent a message assuring the boy would get his stick back, as long as he kept cheering for the Canucks.

The Canucks captain remained true to his word.

Linden’s father, Mike Erwin, says he told his kids they had to stay home from school on Tuesday to wait for family to arrive.

“Who rolls up to the driveway but Fin and Kirk McLean. It was pretty amazing. Obviously, something we’ll never forget,” he said.

“It’s a great feeling,” McLean said in the video. “The community is huge for the Vancouver Canucks and whatever we can do to make people happy and fix things once in a while, I think it’s super important and we love doing it.”

Linden says he’s going to hang up the new signed jersey in his room, which he calls “the Canucks room.”
