“Kind and compassionate, Gino was a gentle giant, and a friend to all who never stopped giving. We look forward to honouring and celebrating his life with you all.”
The team’s Head Coach Bruce Boudreau says in a video Gino was a player who’s legacy will last forever in Vancouver.
“He was a pretty physical force, and he was energetic and character guy and everybody knew that. And when you played the Vancouver Canucks and Gino’s in the lineup, you had to be aware of where he was all the time,” Boudreau said.
“We’re going to have to play hard and try and win this one for Gino tonight,” said Canucks captain Bo Horvat.

The former Canucks enforcer passed away on Sunday after a long battle with Amyloidosis, a disease that attacked his organs and heart. He was diagnosed with the disease in 2014.
The team says a celebration of Gino’s life will be held on Mar. 2, as part of the team’s First Nations Night.
