Snow falls on Metro Vancouver again, leaving slick conditions

Monday night brought another round of snow to the Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley regions, though it’s not anything like what we experienced in December.

Flurries have created some slick conditions on roadways through the Lower Mainland, with flakes continuing to fall into Tuesday morning.

Several crashes have been reported on major routes in the region, and some callers describe seeing buses having trouble getting up hills.

Police agencies and other officials have also urged people to be cautious on the roads, asking drivers to give themselves extra time getting around.

“It could be a little slippery out there this morning,” CityNews Meteorologist Michael Kuss said.

“Especially on the side streets or even the city streets, we’re seeing slick conditions combined with that light traffic working the snow away, combining that with the brine that’s down where it is down. Now we are seeing some of the roads — especially side streets — are not treated, so watch out for those slippery roads. Of course, sidewalks or if you’re on the bike, it’s slick out there.”

Kuss says while we’re dealing with snow through the morning, it shouldn’t be consistent all day.

“We’re seeing the back edge of this precipitation already up over the northern parts of the Sunshine Coast and central Island. So it won’t take long before the waves move through,” he explained, noting snow should taper off in the afternoon.

“With the snow coming down, it’s sticking or at least making for slushy conditions. It’s slippery out there.”
