Pregnant dog rescued from freezing conditions in Kelowna

An emaciated pregnant dog was rescued from terrible conditions in Kelowna, B.C.

The BC SPCA says their animal protection officers found an Australian shepherd chained to a wall in a freezing cold basement. Eileen Drever from the BC SPCA says the dog was in an area of the basement that was separated by plywood and fencing.

“She was exposed to freezing temperatures and had no protection from the cold except for a sprinkling of alfalfa straw and some dirty towels. She was surrounded by piles of feces and urine.”

The dog, named Noelle, was taken to a veterinarian for an examination and brought to the BC SPCA’s Kelowna animal centre, where she gave birth to seven puppies.

Noelle and her babies were then taken to a foster with more than 16 years of experience.

The fosters are working on potty training the puppies after they’ve weaned off Noelle.
