23 arrested in long-term B.C. drug investigation: police

Guns, illegal drugs, and cigarettes are just a few of the items in a large seizure of goods in a long-term investigation by B.C.’s integrated anti-gang police agency.

According to the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia, (CFSEU-BC), an eight-month-long investigation has led to nearly two dozen arrests, and a large amount of illegal items seized.

Police say that 23 people were arrested, and charge approval is pending.

“These arrests have resulted in the significant disruption of an entrenched organized crime group in Fort St. John, Dawson Creek and Fort Nelson,” Cpl. Madonna Saunderson said.

“This collaborative effort led by CFSEU-BC unveiled an alleged drug trafficking network in the provinces North District, giving CFSEU-BC an opportunity to disrupt organized groups causing harm to the communities in the Peace Region,” Insp. Joel Hussey said.

“We remain committed to working with our law enforcement partners across the province to target those who pose the greatest risk to public safety due to their involvement in gang-related activities,” Hussey said.

  • The CFSEU-BC says from October to January of this year, officers seized various drugs, including:
  • 10 kg of cocaine
  • 3 kg of methamphetamine
  • 3 kg psilocybin mushrooms
  • 17 kg of marihuana

The unit says that over two dozen guns were also found, including:

  • 8 handguns
  • 8 shotguns
  • 16 long guns
  • 2 collapsable rifles

Additionally, a cocaine press, along with “various drug paraphernalia,” were also seized, along with about 3,000 cartons of contraband cigarettes, tasers, brass knuckles, ammunition, body armour, and several vehicles.
