Kelowna youth slips on ice, hit by bus: RCMP

By Angelyna Mintz

Police in Kelowna say a 12-year-old boy is in the hospital after he slipped off an icy sidewalk and was hit by a bus Tuesday.

The Kelowna RCMP says the incident happened near Steele Court and Arbour View Drive in the city’s southern region.

Mounties say officers were called in around 3:30 p.m. after police say a group of youths were running toward a bus stop when one slipped on the icy, snow-covered sidewalk and slid under the bus.

When officers arrived on the scene, first responders were already treating the boy. Mounties say while he was seriously hurt, the injuries are not life-threatening.

“These types of accidents, especially when a child is injured affect everyone involved, deeply. The RCMP will provide all available support to anyone requiring it,” Const. Mike Della-Paolera with the Kelowna RCMP said.

According to police, the driver of the bus was cooperative and remained on the scene.
