Vancouver Police respond to four stabbings

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) was busy overnight Friday dealing with four separate stabbings.

According to VPD’s release, the stabbings all took place during a 10 hour span between Friday night and early Saturday morning.

One stabbing, which resulted in the death of a 22-year-old, took place at a home near Burnaby’s Central Park in the Killarney neighbourhood.

Two stabbings took place on the Downtown Eastside, while the fourth and final stabbing happened in Vancouver’s West End.

The stabbing that took place in the West End is the only one to see a suspect arrested so far.

Constable Tania Visintin says these serious events “strained the capacity” of VPD’s frontline first responders.

“With assistance from our Forensic Identification Unit and Major Crime Section, we are continuing to collect evidence that will hopefully lead us to solve each of these crimes,” she said.

The one stabbing fatality marked Vancouver’s fifth homicide of 2023.

VPD say, to their knowledge, the four incidents aren’t connected but all remain under investigation.

Police ask anyone with information on any of these incidents to call 604-717-4022.
