Vancouver makes Time Magazine’s ‘greatest places’ list

Often pegged as one of the most desired places to live in the world, and known for its beautiful mountain ranges, Stanley Park, unlimited sushi options, and high home prices, Vancouver has made the cut in a very special list.

Time Magazine is out with its “The World’s Greatest Places of 2023,” list, and Vancouver is one of only two Canadian cities to make it.

In a short write-up about what makes Vancouver so great, the magazine touches on the city’s indoor and outdoor attractions, its “eclectic cuisine,” and a wealth of unique things for tourists to do.

“Check out the brand-new Rainbow Park, which pays homage to the Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh, and Squamish nations who named the park sθәqәlxenәm ts’exwts’áxwi7 (rainbow), and then take a tour with Talaysay Tours of the popular Stanley Park, where a First Nations guide explains the essential role of trees and plants in Coast Salish people’s lives.

“Canada’s first Chinese Canadian Museum is moving to a permanent site in the city’s historic Chinatown this summer, which is also the time to see the Vancouver Mural Festival; the annual August display covers buildings with massive sociocultural art pieces,” the magazine notes.

It also talks about the nice hotels and accommodations the city has to offer.

What the magazine doesn’t do is touch on any of the challenges Vancouver is facing, like growing concerns around public safety, a real estate market that’s nearly impossible to get into for most, and a drug toxicity crisis that shows no signs of slowing down.

The other Canadian city on the list is Churchill, Manitoba where some can see the northern lights up to 300 nights a year.
