82-year-old skier dies in Whistler, B.C.

An 82-year-old man died over the weekend after a “ski incident” on Blackcomb Mountain in Whistler, B.C., the resort confirms.

In an update Wednesday morning, the resort says staff were called to an intermediate run called Ridge Runner in the Crystal area of the mountain the morning of Saturday, March 18.

The skier was transported to the Whistler Medical Centre where he was later pronounced dead, the resort says. No cause of death has been released and other skiers are not believed to be involved. The coroner confirms it has been notified and is investigating.

“Whistler Blackcomb, Whistler Blackcomb Ski Patrol and the entire Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy and support to our guest’s family and friends,” said Doug Pierini, Whistler Blackcomb Interim COO.

According to the trail information website Trailforks, Ridge Runner is described as “a 2 km blue singletrack trail.”

CityNews has reached out to the Whistler RCMP for more details.
