TransLink says it is committing to its first real estate development project — a proposed 30-storey, mixed-use building near the future Arbutus SkyTrain Station.
The transit authority says it is partnering with PCI Developments on the project near the Broadway Subway line.
“This transit-oriented development will improve people’s access to sustainable transportation options, generate new long-term funding for transit services, and provide much-needed housing options,” a news release reads.
The proposed development includes over 200 residential rental units which would be “rented at below marked rates,” along with community space for a Jewish cultural centre.
TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn says the new partnership is just another step in building “a transit oriented community.”
“This program will generate much-needed long-term revenue to expand and improve vital transit services, while aligning with local and provincial government goals to increase housing supply.”
