Kitsilano Showboat goes up in flames, crews say

The beloved Kitsilano Showboat community stage has suffered “heavy damage” after a fire broke out early Saturday morning, according to the Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services.

Crews were called to the popular entertainment venue near Kitsilano Beach Park just after midnight.

“They arrived and found there was heavy fire coming from the Kitsilano Showboat amphitheater stage. Of course, put water on the fire as soon as possible, and they were able to knock the fire back, and then they were able to enter inside and put the fire out that was inside,” Assistant Chief Keith Stewart said.

“There was heavy fire damage inside….There’s water damage as well.”

Stewart adds that the structure of the building is also damaged.

He says no one was injured, and there is no word yet as to what started the fire.

The Kitsilano Showboat has been operating as a community stage since 1935 and is run by a non-profit society. In a Facebook post the society called it a “sad day” and said they will keep the community updated on what comes next.

CityNews has reached out to the Kitsilano Showboat for comment on this story.
