2 people hospitalized after Lougheed Hwy crash in Maple Ridge

Lougheed Highway through Maple Ridge was closed in both directions for most of Thursday as police looked into a serious crash that left two people hurt.
The closure started late Thursday morning, and Lougheed Highway reopened at around 7 p.m.
Just after 11 a.m., Ridge Meadows RCMP tweeted that the highway near Laity Street was closed due to a “serious motor vehicle incident.”

In an email to CityNews, BC Emergency Health Services says five ambulances were called to the area around 10:30 a.m., transporting two people to the hospital. One person is in stable condition and one person is in critical condition, the agency says.
Corp. Dave Noon with the Lower Mainland Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service says in a tweet that the highway will be closed in both directions “for several hours.”

Someone who works at a business in the area has told CityNews the crash happened around 10:30 a.m. Thursday. He says a vehicle was driving in the wrong direction in the westbound lanes of the highway when it veered onto Laity Street, hitting a pedestrian, a parked vehicle, and a hydro pole before it flipped onto its side.
